Rear Subframe Modification & NSR250 Tail Install

A race FRP NSR250 tail was purchased to replace the existing MC22 tail fairings. Since the MC22 subframe was too long for the NSR tail to line up with the mounting holes the subframe needed to be cut down, then following on with a 'less is better' approach the rear fender was thrown away too.

PROCESS

First step was cutting holes in the NSR tail for the Ecliptech MC22 tail light.

With the holes marked out, a drill was run along the inside of each circle and then cleaned up with a dremel sanding tool.

0.5mm aluminium sheet was used as the base of the new undertray, in the idea that it wouldn't be adding any weight back to the bike and would help to keep a clean minimalistic look.

Once the new undertray was attached, the subframe was marked and trimmed flush with the end of the undertray.

The bracket on the old undertray for the ECU was drilled out and then attached to the new undertray.

Aluminium flatbar was then bent to shape and used as a brace for the rear of the subframe, doubling as a mounting point for the plate holder and tail light too.
.

Once the undertray was completed the NSR tail was refitted to mock up where the plate holder needs to sit, what needs to be trimmed away at the front of the tail (where the tail meets the fuel tank) and where to drill the holes for the bottom mounts.
